School Facilities

 

St Declan’s N.S. is situated on a large site at the Western end of the village. The building incorporates the original National School which dates back to the 1950’s and a modern extension which was completed in 2009. Facilities are excellent and include four south facing, bright and spacious classrooms, a large hall, a library, well equipped Learning Support/ Resource rooms and a combined staffroom and office. Each class room has an interactive white board and there is a sizeable bank of readily accessible laptops available for use in each classroom as needed.

Outdoor facilities are comprised of three large play areas: a green area to the front of the school, a concrete yard to the rear of the building and a large enclosed Astroturf pitch which has been built on the high ground immediately behind the concreted yard. The availability of these extensive play areas ensures that individual age groups each have their own allocated spaces at break-times.

Four raised beds have been created adjacent to the concrete yard and children enjoy growing their own vegetables during the Spring-Summer term.

St Declan’s is fortunate to be situated in an area of great historical significance and of unique natural beauty. The school uses the natural and built environment as additional facilities that provide opportunities to enhance educational provision.

The school is guided by a dynamic Board of Management, and is greatly supported by a pro-active Parent Association. Both of these bodies work in close co-operation with the school staff. These committed and caring professionals strive to ensure that all students achieve their potential in a warm atmosphere which is imbued with a strong Christian ethos.

St Declan’s is greatly supported by many groups and individuals in the village of Ardmore and is cognisant of and thankful for the positive impact of this support in fostering the on-going evolution of our fine National School.
